Pattern description
In the pattern A always throws to B and B always throws to C, so there are two directions in which you can juggle the pattern.
The simplest way to throw the pattern is by everyone doing straight throws, but it is also possible to have A and B do crossing throws and only C do straight throws.
A starts with 3 clubs (two in the right hand), B and C have 2 clubs, one per hand each. If everyone does straight throws, B starts from the left hand after A, then C starts with the right hand.
A 1|2: pass*B B 1|1: pass*C C 1|1 pass*A
pass*{A|B|C}: either a pass or a zap.
- A,B,C have straight passes or
- A,B crossing passes, C has straight passes
The throws are 2.3 beats long, so usually they would be thrown as zaps, but I suggest starting out with high, lofty passes, making the pattern very slow. Receiving passes from a different juggler/place than your own passes are thrown is difficult, specially in one-counts and having a slow pattern helps to learn to get used to this.
Before you start, everyone should throw some test-passes. Passes to the hand closer to you must be rather shorter and maybe a bit behind the person. Make sure the throws go to a position so that they do not hit the receiver on the head when you start also watching out for your incoming passes … and the receiver maybe more watches where their passes go. Passes to the far hand as seen from your position should obviously longer and if there are self throws in the pattern look like they go through the cascade of the next person. Take care that these throws can be in the way of the outgoing passes of the next juggler in the triangle and give each other feedback as to where to throw so that this isn't an issue
This is one possible pattern to start learning getting passes from a different person than the person your throws go to. Doing the throws as lofty passes should enable you to
- watch your throws and not kill or maim your fellow neighbor juggler
- as a group learn where incoming passes hinder you from doing
Variant Overview
You can throw this pattern:
- clockwise or counter-clockwise
- everyone doing straight throws or A and B doing crossing throws, C doing straight throws
- with passes or with zaps
